Regular Season Round 9: AEK - Promitheas 81-77

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Promitheas (6-3) against eighth ranked AEK (5-4) on Saturday night. Visiting Promitheas was defeated by AEK in a tough game in Athens 77-81. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Promitheas. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Promitheas won third quarter 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Promitheas outrebounded AEK 42-29 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Colombian swingman Braian Angola-Rodas (198-94, college: FSU, agency: Network Sports International) stepped up and scored 26 points and 4 assists for the winners and Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Lleida, agency: Global Sports Basketball) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American power forward Jerai Grant (203-89, college: Clemson, agency: Octagon Europe) with 14 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Kendrick Ray (188-94, college: KSU) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Five Promitheas players scored in double figures. Promitheas' coach Luis Casimiro rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. AEK moved-up to fifth place. Promitheas at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Kolossos HH. AEK will play against Iraklis (#12) in Thessaloniki in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Promitheas will play at home against Lavrio (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
