Regular Season Round 8: Gijon - Navarra 72-76

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 9th ranked Gijon (3-5) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Navarra (3-5) 76-72 on Saturday. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Nigerian forward Stephen Ugochukwu (201-96, college: McNeese St.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Javier Balastegui (187-97) who added 10 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Ugochukwu is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Navarra's coach Jordi Juste used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Unai Mendicote (196-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Javier Lucas (207-86) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Four Gijon players scored in double figures. Navarra moved-up to ninth place in Silver. Navarra will meet at home Clavijo (#14) in the next round where they are favorite. Gijon will play against Algeciras (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
