Regular Season Round 4: Samara - Gorizont 74-68
Date: December 9, 2021
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Russian Samara and 6th ranked Belarusian Gorizont had identical 1-1 record. This time Samara used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Minsk 74-68 on Thursday night. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-68. The winners were led by power forward Anna Zaitceva (182-99) who scored that evening 24 points and 8 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican point guard Jennifer ONeill (165-90, college: Kentucky, agency: LBM Management) supported her with 17 points and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by center Anastasiya Verameyenka (195-87) did not help to save the game for Gorizont. Brazilian forward Nany Carvalho (188-97, college: Kansas) added 9 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Gorizont's coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Samara (2-1) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Rostov. Defending Belarusian champion Gorizont dropped to the tenth position with two games lost. Samara will meet at home Olimpia (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gorizont will play against Kibirkstis and hope to win that game.
