Regular Season Round 9: Thor AK - Valur 75-79

Bottom-ranked Thor AK (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 79-75 loss to sixth ranked Valur (6-3) in Akureyri on Thursday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 39-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Valur outrebounded Thor AK 49-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. The former international forward Kristofer Acox (200-93, college: Furman) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds for the winners and Argentinian-Italian Pablo Bertone (193-90, college: FAU, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 26 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was point guard Dui Jonsson (178-1) with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals and Swiss-Cameroonian Eric Fongue (200-91, college: Alaska) scored 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Thor AK players scored in double figures. Valur moved-up to third place, which they share with Grindavik and Tindastoll. Loser Thor AK still closes the standings with nine games lost. Valur will meet Breidablik (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Thor AK will play against KR in Reykjavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
