Regular Season Round 9: BLMA - Lyon 81-78
Date: December 11, 2021
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Lyon (6-3) against ninth ranked Gazelles (4-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Lyon was edged by Gazelles in a tough game in Montpellier 78-81. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Lyon. Gazelles forced 22 Lyon turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Haley Peters (190-92, college: Duke) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Elodie Naigre (182-95) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Five Gazelles players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was international guard Marine Johannes (174-95) who recorded 23 points and Belgian point guard Julie Allemand (173-96, agency: LBM Management) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Lyon's coach Pierre Vincent rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gazelles moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Roche. Lyon at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Villeneuve and Landes. Gazelles will meet bottom-ranked Tarbes (#12) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lyon will play against the league's second-placed Bourges (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
