Regular Season Round 10: Breidablik - Valur 89-87

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Breidablik (4-6) edged higher ranked Valur (6-4) in Kopavogur 89-87 on Thursday. Valur was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Breidablik, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Sam Prescott (190-90, college: Mt.St.Mary's, agency: SDJ Sports) notched 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Hilmar Petursson (190-0) supported him with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Breidablik players scored in double figures. Even 29 points and 5 rebounds by British forward Callum Lawson (198-96, college: ACU, agency: Players Group) did not help to save the game for Valur. International guard Pavel Ermolinskij (203-87) added 8 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists for lost side. Breidablik have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Breidablik maintains ninth position with 4-6 record. Loser Valur dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Grindavik and Tindastoll. Breidablik will meet higher ranked Stjarnan (#8) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik KR.
