Not a big story in a game when 16th ranked Varese (3-9) was defeated on the road by thirteenth ranked Sassari (5-7) 104-99 on Sunday. Sassari made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Jason Burnell (201-97, college: JSU) who scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian forward Eimantas Bendzius (207-90) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. Five Sassari players scored in double figures. Sassari's coach Demis Cavina used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Syrian-American point guard George Kell III (193-96, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) who recorded 28 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and American point guard Marcus Keene (178-95, college: CMU) added 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists respectively. Sassari moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Venezia and Brescia. Varese lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. They share it with Fortitudo BO and Cremona. Sassari will meet Fortitudo BO (#15) in the next round where they are favorite. Varese will play against Trento and hope to secure a win.
