Regular Season Round 11: Algeciras - Zamora 90-77

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Algeciras (5-6) beat at home 4th placed Zamora (6-5) 90-77 on Wednesday. Algeciras made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Jordanian-American forward Zane Najdawi (201-96, college: Citadel) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 7 rebounds. Naturalized Gibraltar point guard Miguel Ortega (187-91) helped adding 17 points and 5 assists. Five Algeciras players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican guard Bobby Harris (185-91, college: AIC, agency: Duran International) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Nigerian forward Jeffrey Solarin (193-92, college: Idaho St.) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Algeciras maintains ninth place in Silver with 5-6 record. Loser Zamora dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Algeciras will meet higher ranked Burgos (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zamora will play against Gijon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
