Regular Season Round 10: TSU - Tskhum-Abkhazeti 68-79

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Tskhum-Abkhazeti (#8) and TSU (#2). TSU was defeated at home 68-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of TSU. The game was mostly controlled by Tskhum-Abkhazeti. TSU managed to win fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tskhum-Abkhazeti made 7 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by TSU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Marquill Smith (193-96, college: UWG) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Alex Peacock (199-97, college: Texas St.) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Tskhum-Abkhazeti's coach Irakli Dzidziguri used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international forward Nika Darbaidze (204-98) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Ryle Owens (192-97, college: Young Harris) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tskhum-Abkhazeti (4-5) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Rustavi and Titebi. TSU at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Vera. Tskhum-Abkhazeti's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mega.
