Regular Season Round 13: Fjolnir 2 - Vestri 57-61

Bottom-ranked Vestri managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they won against tenth-ranked Fjolnir 2 in Reykjavik 61-57. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 18-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Vestri forced 20 Fjolnir 2 turnovers. Guard Sara Newman (-3) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Linda Kristjansdottir (170-99) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Vestri players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Mia Hjordisardottir (166-7) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals and center Heidur Karlsdottir (192-5) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Fjolnir 2's coach Hakon Hjartarson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vestri (2-9) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with defeated Fjolnir 2. Fjolnir 2 lost eighth consecutive game. Vestri is looking forward to face higher ranked Athena-UMFK (#6) in Reykjavík in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fjolnir 2's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Armann.
