Regular Season Round 13: Tallina U. - Aistes-LSMU 81-72

There was a surprise result in Tallinn where ninth ranked Estonian Tallina U. (6-10) won against higher ranked Lithuanian Aistes-LSMU (7-6) 81-72 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-18. But Aistes-LSMU won third quarter 15-8. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tallina U. made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Aistes-LSMU outrebounded Tallina U. 44-32 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87) fired a double-double by scoring 29 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Guard Merike Anderson (180-81) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 assists. Gintare Paulauskaite (185-95) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Gedvile Savostaite (180-2) added 9 points and 12 rebounds respectively for lost side. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Tallina U.. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Aistes-LSMU keeps the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Siauliu Siauliai. Tallina U. will meet at home league's second-placed Kibirkstis in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aistes-LSMU will play against Liepaja/LSSS and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
