Regular Season Round 16: Santander - Getxo 78-88

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Santander (4-13) lost at home to fourth ranked Getxo (11-4) 88-78 on Saturday. Getxo forced 20 Santander turnovers. Strangely Santander outrebounded Getxo 54-38 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by center Asier Gonzalez (198-0) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and guard Ander Fernandez (193-94) supported him with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Getxo players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds by Soulemane Chabiyo did not help to save the game for Santander. Mali-American power forward Nouhoum Bocoum (208-92, college: Arkansas St.) added 17 points and 15 rebounds for lost side. Santander's coach Chisco Maranon rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Getxo moved-up to third place in Group A-A. Loser Santander keeps the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Zarautz and Leioa. Getxo will meet at home Valle de Egues (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santander will play against Ardoi (#7) in Zizur Mayor and hope to secure a win.
