Regular Season Round 16: Valle de Egues - Leioa 89-79

Everything went according to plan when eleventh ranked Valle de Egues (7-10) defeated 13th ranked Leioa (4-13) in Olaz 89-79 on Sunday. Valle de Egues made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The winners were led by power forward Javier Lacunza (203-94, college: FAU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and point guard Alex Calvo (180-91) supported him with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Valle de Egues players scored in double figures. Valle de Egues' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 18 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists by Juan Torres (198-92) did not help to save the game for Leioa. Guard Joseba Estalayo (188-96) added 23 points for lost side. Valle de Egues maintains eleventh position in Group A-A with 7-10 record. Leioa lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourteenth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Zarautz and Santander. Valle de Egues will meet higher ranked Getxo (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Leioa will play against Mondragon (#4) having rather not much hope for a victory.
