Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Ruvo di Puglia (10-5) defeated at home 13th ranked Avellino (4-10) 81-63 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Riccardo Bartolozzi (205-95) who led the winners and scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Maltese center Kurt Cassar (208-99) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Five Ruvo di Puglia players scored in double figures. Swingman Norman Hassan (197-90, agency: Octagon Europe) came up with 20 points and power forward Stefano Spizzichini (203-90) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for Avellino in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Ruvo di Puglia. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Avellino keeps the thirteenth position with ten games lost. They share it with Olginate. Ruvo di Puglia will meet higher ranked Salerno (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Avellino will play against R.Calabria (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
