Regular Season Round 13: IR - Stjarnan 88-77

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Stjarnan (7-6) lost to tenth ranked IR (5-8) in Reykjavik 77-88 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by IR. Stjarnan managed to win second period 28-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Stjarnan's 28. American-French forward Jordan Semple (201-92, college: Chico St., agency: Octagon Europe) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Croatian forward Igor Maric (195-85, agency: PEPI SPORT) accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds. Slovenian forward David Gabrovsek (204-94, college: MBU) came up with 16 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Hilmar Henningsson (196-0, agency: Duran International) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Stjarnan in the defeat. Five IR and four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. IR moved-up to ninth place. Loser Stjarnan keeps the seventh position with six games lost. IR will meet league's leader Keflavik on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Stjarnan will play against Thor Thorl (#3) in Thorlakshofn and hope to secure a win.
