Very important is a road loss of second ranked Vimpelin Veto (10-5) against eighth ranked Catz Lappeenranta (5-10) on Wednesday night. Visiting Vimpelin Veto was defeated by Catz Lappeenranta in Lappeenranta 62-52. It looked good early as Vimpelin Veto took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Catz Lappeenranta had a 17-12 second period charge getting the lead and Vimpelin Veto was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 52-62. It was a great evening for naturalized Russian power forward Elena Melto (184-86) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Brianna Cummings (178-95, college: GWU) helped adding 17 points and 11 rebounds. Cummings is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Catz Lappeenranta's coach Petri Jaakkola allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American swingman Shay Burnett (175-96, college: Elon) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Kym Royster (188-97, college: Indiana, agency: Green Sports Management) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Catz Lappeenranta maintains eighth place with 5-10 record, which they share with FoA. Vimpelin Veto at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with ToPo. Catz Lappeenranta will play against higher ranked Marsky Helsinki (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vimpelin Veto will play against Espoo Team and hopes to get back on the winning track.
