There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Penarroya (3-11) edged at home higher ranked CAM E.Soler 2 (6-8) 77-76 on Saturday. Penarroya forced 20 CAM E.Soler 2 turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Jose Pepe Varo (193-93) who scored 18 points. American point guard Ryan Matthew (180-95, college: RMU) chipped in 9 points and 6 assists. Matthew is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Wasim El Otmani (187-98) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and center Javier Gonzalez (207-92) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four CAM E.Soler 2 players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Penarroya maintains twelfth place in Group D-A with 3-11 record. Loser CAM E.Soler 2 dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Novaschool. Penarroya will meet higher ranked Novaschool (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CAM E.Soler 2 will play against El Pinar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
