There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Gijon Basket (6-10) beat on the road higher ranked Chantada (10-7) 55-49 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was point guard Alberto Aleman (178-98) who scored 13 points and 4 assists. Forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: HLGU) chipped in 7 points and 10 rebounds. Gijon Basket's coach Fran Sanchez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Cristian Iglesias (200-94) produced 7 points and 9 rebounds and forward Ruben Rey (198-93) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Gijon Basket moved-up to thirteenth place in Group A-B. Loser Chantada keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Gijon Basket will meet at home higher ranked Porrino (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chantada will play against Ourense and hope to secure a win.
