There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Melilla (7-8) defeated at home 7th ranked Coruna (7-7) 76-68 on Saturday. Melilla made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Coruna turnovers. The best player for the winners was Serbian power forward Bojana Stevanovic (180-96) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Mali Aminata Traore (-0) chipped in 8 points and 14 rebounds. Melilla's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Laura Martinez (-0) who recorded 19 points and 5 steals and American swingman Amy Griffin (183-96, college: La Salle) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four Coruna players scored in double figures. Melilla have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain ninth place in Group A with 7-8 record. Loser Coruna dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Melilla will meet higher ranked Unicaja (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Coruna will play against Almeria (#4) and hope to secure a win.
