Regular Season Round 17: Guimar - Estudiantes B 71-80

There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Estudiantes B (4-9) defeated on the road higher ranked Guimar (7-6) 80-71 on Saturday. Estudiantes B forced 25 Guimar turnovers. The best player for the winners was point guard Alejandro Montero (185-3) who scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. Power forward Hugo Lopez (209-3) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Jonathan Jorge (183-1) produced 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Senegalese forward Modou Mbaye (202-94) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Guimar's coach David Hernandez tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Estudiantes B moved-up to fifteenth place in Group B. Newly promoted Guimar dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Estudiantes B will meet at home higher ranked Guadalajara (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guimar will play against the league's second-placed Real Madrid 2 and will have a slim chance for a victory.
