Regular Season Round 14: Carugate - Ponzano 69-67

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Serie A2 took place in Corugate. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Ponzano (6-6) to ninth ranked Carugate (6-7) 69-67 on Saturday evening. Strangely Ponzano outrebounded Carugate 49-27 including a 18-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Martina Baiardo (175-95) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 5 assists. Finnish center Helmi Tulonen (191-98, college: Duquesne) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Carugate players scored in double figures. Dutch center Richelle Van Der Keijl (196-93, college: N.Mexico) replied with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and point guard Viviana Giordano (175-89) added 7 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Ponzano. Carugate maintains ninth position in A2 with 6-7 record. Ponzano at the other side keeps the eighth place with six games lost. Carugate are looking forward to face league's second-placed Udine on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Ponzano will play against the league's leader Crema (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
