There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Ponferrada (8-8) lost to eleventh ranked Navarra (6-9) in Pamplona 81-89 on Saturday. The winners were led by American-Nigerian forward Stephen Ugochukwu (201-96, college: McNeese St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Javier Balastegui (187-97) supported him with 11 points and 6 assists. Ugochukwu is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Navarra's coach Jordi Juste used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 24 points and 7 rebounds by Serbian center Luka Majstorovic (208-96, college: Embry Riddle, agency: SLN) did not help to save the game for Ponferrada. Guard Daniel Manchon (193-98, agency: Promo Sport ID) added 17 points for lost side. Navarra moved-up to tenth place in Silver. Loser Ponferrada keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. Navarra will meet higher ranked Melilla (#9) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ponferrada will play against Zamora and hope to secure a win.
