Regular Season Round 15: San Salvatore - Matelica 54-62

There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Matelica (5-8) won against on the road higher ranked San Salvatore (6-5) 62-54 on Saturday. Matelica forced 24 San Salvatore turnovers. Strangely San Salvatore outrebounded Matelica 45-33 including a 40-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Argentinian point guard Debora Gonzalez (170-90, agency: Players Group) who scored 24 points and 5 assists. Point guard Benedetta Gramaccioni (174-98) chipped in 14 points and 5 steals. Matelica's coach Orazio Cutugno used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Mounia El Habbab (186-94) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and center Adriana Cutrupi (184-96) added 14 points and 15 rebounds respectively. Matelica moved-up to ninth place in A2. Loser San Salvatore keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Matelica will meet at home higher ranked Patti (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Salvatore will play against Firenze and hope to secure a win.
