Regular Season Round 18: Hottur - Haukar 90-96

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Haukar as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Haukar defeated their close opponent Hottur in Egilsstadir 96-90. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 36-27. But Hottur won fourth quarter 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American guard Jeremy Smith (190-91, college: Nicholls St.) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Dutch center Deion Bute (206-95, college: CCSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. American guard Tim Guers (190-96, college: St.Anselm) replied with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Spanish point guard Arturo Fernandez (182-90) added 17 points and 11 assists in the effort for Hottur. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Haukar have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Hottur at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Hottur will play next round against Hrunamenn trying to get back on the winning streak. Haukar will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Hamar at home.
