Regular Season Round 18: Oviedo - Alicante 54-77

There was an upset when higher ranked Oviedo (10-6) was crushed at home by fourteenth ranked Alicante (7-8) 77-54 on Saturday. Alicante shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 54.8 percentage. The best player for the winners was American Gerel Simmons (188-93, college: LMU, agency: Duran International) who scored 26 points and 5 assists. Lithuanian Osvaldas Matulionis (200-91) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Sean McDonnell (203-95, college: Westmont) who recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds and DR Congolese-Canadian guard Mathieu Kamba (196-95, college: Cent Arkansas) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Alicante moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Melilla. Loser Oviedo keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Alicante will meet at home higher ranked Lleida (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Oviedo will play against Juaristi ISB in Azpeitia and hope to secure a win.
