There was a minor upset when 10th ranked Besancon (8-13) was defeated at home by twelfth ranked Avignon/Pontet (7-15) 88-80 on Tuesday. Avignon/Pontet made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. American-Jamaican Duane Morgan (198-93, college: Adelphi) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Gaetan Meyniel (189-0) chipped in 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Valentin Vitale-Boiteux (187-1) produced 28 points and 5 rebounds and the former international center Ferdinand Prenom (204-91) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Avignon/Pontet moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with Kaysersberg. Loser Besancon keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. Avignon/Pontet will meet higher ranked Orchesien BC (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Besancon will play against Mulhouse having rather not much hope for a victory.
