Regular Season Round 20: Gernika - Leganes 85-61

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Leganes (5-13) was outleveled on the road by seventh ranked Gernika (8-7) 85-61 on Wednesday. Gernika made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Gernika outrebounded Leganes 40-20 including a 33-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American swingman Angie Bjorklund (183-1989, college: Tennessee) who scored that evening 27 points and the other American import forward Tinara Moore (190-1996, college: CMU) supported her with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 33 points (!!!) and 4 steals by American-U.S. Virgin Islands swingman Imani Tate (175-1995, college: Albany) did not help to save the game for Leganes. Forward Cecilia Muhate (188-1997, college: Ole Miss) added 6 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Despite that victory Gernika went down to eighth position due to points difference. Leganes lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Ensino. Gernika will meet Estudiantes (#9) in the next round. Leganes will play against Bembibre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
