Regular Season Round 16: Jelgava - VIA 68-52

One of the most interesting games of round 16 was a derby match between two teams from Latvia. Seventh ranked Jelgava won against visiting VIA (3-9) 68-52. The game without a history. Jelgava led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding VIA to just 6 points in first quarter. Jelgava forced 19 VIA turnovers and outrebounded them 49-35 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Latvian Diana Dude (176-99) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Latvian guard Laura Zambrane (176-2) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. Point guard Zelma Malmane (170-3) produced 6 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Karina Dmitruka (186-99) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jelgava (6-7) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Latvija U16. Newly promoted VIA keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
