There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Fuenlabrada 2 (7-10) outplayed higher ranked Tenerife Naut. (9-10) in Madrid 96-65 on Saturday. Fuenlabrada 2 forced 24 Tenerife Naut. turnovers and outrebounded them 46-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Argentinian center Juan Fernandez (209-2) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Luis Melian (177-0, college: Labette CC) accounted for 9 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Fuenlabrada 2's coach Jose Luis Pichel felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Alex Navas (199-0) came up with 18 points and point guard Alberto Hernandez (183-99) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Tenerife Naut. in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Fuenlabrada 2 moved-up to twelfth place in Group B. Loser Tenerife Naut. dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. Fuenlabrada 2 will meet higher ranked Alcala (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tenerife Naut. will play against La Matanza (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
