Regular Season Round 16: Dimantu ak. - VIA 65-73

The most interesting game of round 16 was a derby match between two teams from Latvia. The game took place in Saulkrasti where ninth ranked VIA won against host Dimantu ak. (0-11) 73-65. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-65. VIA dominated on the defensive end, holding Dimantu ak. to just 4 points in fourth quarter. They also forced 23 Dimantu ak. turnovers and outrebounded them 53-37 including a 25-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. VIA looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Dimantu ak. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Rezija Dubulta (177-4) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Zelma Malmane (170-3) who added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four VIA players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Anita Stepena (178-4) responded with 23 points and 4 assists and guard Lita Guslens (181-5) scored 5 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted VIA maintains ninth position with 3-9 record. Dimantu ak. at the other side still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
