No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Venezia (11-2) smashed at home 11th ranked Faenza (3-12) 87-57 on Saturday. They outrebounded Faenza 35-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Faenza's players. It was a great evening for Senegalese-Spanish center Astou Ndour (198-94) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP, agency: Shark Sports Management) helped adding 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. At the losing side Nigerian forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (188-97, college: Northwestern, agency: LBM Management) responded with 8 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Rosa Cupido (166-92) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Venezia. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Faenza keeps the eleventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Moncalieri. Venezia will meet San Martino (#7) in the next round. Faenza will play against Empoli (#14) and hope to secure a win.
