Regular Season Round 16: MuKi - HNMKY 72-86

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Helsinki: HNMKY (#9) and MuKi (#12). MuKi was defeated at home 72-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-72. HNMKY dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to MuKi's 26. They outrebounded MuKi 47-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. HNMKY looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HNMKY made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Santeri Makkonen (195-1) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Erik Waxlax (175-99) who added 16 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side point guard Tuomo Antikainen (188-99) responded with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Joonas Timonen (189-0) scored 17 points. Four MuKi players scored in double figures. HNMKY (6-9) moved-up to eighth place in 1st Division. Loser MuKi keeps the twelfth position with 11 games lost. HNMKY will meet at home higher ranked Raiders Basket (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. MuKi will play against Kouvot Ak. (#9) in Kouvola and hope to secure a win.
