Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Gijon Basket (7-11) was outscored on the road by sixth ranked Leon (12-6) 97-70 on Sunday. Leon dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gijon Basket's 38. Leon forced 20 Gijon Basket turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for guard Alan Morchon (188-99) who led the winners and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Argentinian swingman Federico Copes (199-2) accounted for 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Leon players scored in double figures. Greek center Giorgos Tsimidis (206-98) came up with 22 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Carlos Suarez (186-99) added 14 points respectively for Gijon Basket in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Leon moved-up to fifth place in Group A-B. Loser Gijon Basket keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with Univ.Valladolid and Culleredo. Leon will meet Ourense (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon Basket will play against Betanzos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
