Regular Season Round 16: Valur - KR 81-78
Date: February 7, 2022
No shocking result in a game in Reykjavik where fourth ranked Valur (9-7) edged 9th ranked KR (7-7) 81-78 on Monday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-14. But KR won second period 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valur looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Argentinian-Italian Pablo Bertone (193-90, college: FAU, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and international forward Hjalmar Stefansson (203-96) who added 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Croatian forward Dani Koljanin (202-96, college: UALR) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and the former international guard Brynjar Bjornsson (190-88, college: FMU) scored 22 points (made all of his seven free throws). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Valur maintains fourth position with 9-7 record, which they share with Grindavik and Stjarnan. KR at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena IR.
