An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Reykjavik. First ranked Hottur faced 4th ranked Fjolnir. Guests from Egilsstadir (17-3) defeated host Fjolnir (12-7) 107-90. The game was mostly controlled by Hottur. Fjolnir was better in third quarter 28-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hottur forced 19 Fjolnir turnovers and outrebounded them 56-41 including 16 on the offensive glass. American guard Tim Guers (190-96, college: St.Anselm) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Spanish forward David Guardia (200-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Hottur's coach Einar Johannsson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Olafur Styrmisson (198-3) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and guard Karl Birgisson (189-4) added 17 points in the effort for Fjolnir. Four Hottur and five Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Hottur have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-3 record. Fjolnir at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Hottur will play against Alftanes (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Fjolnir will play against Sindri and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
