Regular Season Round 17: Snaefell - Vestri 80-72

Very predictable result in Stykkisholmur where third ranked Snaefell (10-5) defeated bottom-ranked Vestri (2-13) 80-72 on Saturday. Vestri trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 23-9 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 72-80 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Sianni Martin (173-1996, college: UCF) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Point guard Rebekka Karlsdottir (162-1996) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Snaefell's coach Jon Eytorsson used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Danielle Shafer (173-1995, college: Urbana) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds and forward Snaefridur Arnadottir (-2004) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Snaefell. They maintain third place with 10-5 record having just three points less than leader Armann. Vestri lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with Fjolnir 2. Snaefell will meet league's leader Armann in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vestri will play against Stjarnan (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
