Regular Season Round 20: Gijon Basket - Betanzos 77-66

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Betanzos (8-12) lost on the road to twelfth ranked Gijon Basket (8-11) 77-66 on Saturday. The winners were led by swingman Carlos Suarez (186-99) who scored that evening 18 points and 7 assists and forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Gijon Basket players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds by guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) did not help to save the game for Betanzos. Center Marcos Rozas (202-83) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Gijon Basket moved-up to tenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Culleredo. Loser Betanzos dropped to the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Gijon Basket will meet higher ranked Marin (#7) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Betanzos will play against Ourense (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
