Regular Season Round 5: Salaspils - East Ball 54-51

The most exciting game of round 5 in the BBBL took place in Salaspils. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Latvian East Ball (2-7) to leader Lithuanian Salaspils (4-0) 54-51 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. East Ball trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 17-7 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 51-54 at the end of the game. Salaspils forced 23 East Ball turnovers. Latvian forward Arturs Lazdins (187-6) stepped up and scored 22 points and 4 steals for the winners and forward Emils Licitis chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Raitis Spels (196-6) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds and forward Emils Vecvagars (-5) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Salaspils have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. East Ball at the other side dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost.
