Regular Season Round 4: Mgzavrebi - Gtuni 68-108
Date: February 12, 2022
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Gtuni (#1) and Mgzavrebi (#5). Mgzavrebi was smashed at home by 40 points 68-108 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game without a history. Gtuni led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 26 Mgzavrebi turnovers. Gtuni looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Mgzavrebi's players. American forward Jamani Pierce (200-96, college: ENMU) fired 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward Eric Frederick (203-89, college: TxWes) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Luka Qutidze (180-2) produced 13 points and 6 assists and center Saba Dabrundashvili (205-2) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gtuni have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Gtuni maintains first position with 3-0 record. Mgzavrebi at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Gtuni's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Orbi.
