Second Stage Round 1: Honka - Catz 62-71

There was a small surprise when Catz Lappeenranta defeated on the road Tapiolan Honka 71-62. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tapiolan Honka won third quarter 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Tapiolan Honka 50-36 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for naturalized Russian power forward Elena Melto (184-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Seairra Barrett (183, college: California, PA) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Barrett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American point guard Desiree Ramos (170-93, college: SJSU, agency: Jones Sports International) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import power forward Carmen Tyson-Thomas (175-91, college: Syracuse) added 21 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Tapiolan Honka. Tapiolan Honka's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Catz Lappeenranta will play against Espoo Team at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tapiolan Honka will have a break next round.
