Second Stage Round 7: Buducnost - Celje 70-59

There was a change at the WABA leadership position after last games. Round 7 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Slovenian Celje (10-2). They were defeated by second ranked Montenegrin Buducnost (11-1) 70-59 on Tuesday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Celje. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Buducnost. Celje managed to win third quarter 18-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Celje to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Celje 48-29 including 21 on the offensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Celje helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Serbian Mina Djordjevic (188-1999) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Marija Lekovic (166-2003) helped adding 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Brazilian forward Isabela Lyra (180-1994) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Lea Bartelme (178-2005) scored 7 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Buducnost have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Montenegrin champion keeps a position of league leader. Defending Slovenian champion Celje dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Buducnost. Just two games before the end of Second Stage and it may be the most important game of the season next round when Celje faces strong Orlovi trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Buducnost will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Montana on the road.
