The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Fjolnir as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Fjolnir smashed 7th ranked Grindavik in Reykjavik 90-66. The game was mostly controlled by Fjolnir. Grindavik managed to win third quarter 28-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fjolnir dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Grindavik's 26. They outrebounded Grindavik 53-31 including a 41-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fjolnir looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Grindavik's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fjolnir made 7 blocks. 24 personal fouls committed by Grindavik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian-Hungarian swingman Sanja Orozovic (186-1990) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Dagny Davidsdottir (187-1997, college: Wyoming) contributed with 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. American guard Robbi Ryan (170-1997, college: Arizona St.) replied with 24 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and guard Hulda Olafsdottir (173-2003) added 14 points in the effort for Grindavik. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Grindavik lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with 14 games lost. Grindavik will play next round against Skallagrimur trying to get back on the winning streak. Fjolnir will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Valur. It will be extra interesting game as Valur is their local rival from Reykjavik.
