Regular Season Round 20: Haukar - Valur 97-71

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Valur (13-6) against fourth ranked Haukar (10-6) on Wednesday night. Visiting Valur was crushed by Haukar in Hafnarfjordur 97-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Valur. The game was mostly controlled by Haukar. Valur was better in second period 27-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Valur 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Keira Robinson (175-1994, college: VCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Helena Sverrisdottir (186-1988, college: TCU) who added 12 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. American guard Ameryst Alston (175-1993, college: Ohio St.) responded with 44 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Asta Grimsdottir (185-2001, college: HBU) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Haukar maintains fourth position with 10-6 record. Defending champion Valur keeps the second place with six games lost. Haukar will play against Breidablik (#6) in Kopavogur in the next round. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Fjolnir.
