Ninth-ranked Estudiantes (8-10) was very close to win a game against first ranked Avenida (17-1) in Salamanca on Thursday. Avenida managed to secure only one-point victory 71-70. However their fans expected much easier game. American swingman Kahleah Copper (186-1994, college: Rutgers) saved the victory by scoring 14 points. Greek forward Maria Fasoula (196-1997, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 13 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. American forward Nadia Fingall (191-1998, college: Stanford) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Mariona Ortiz (183-1992) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Estudiantes. Five Estudiantes players scored in double figures. Avenida have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-1 record. Estudiantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with ten games lost. Avenida are looking forward to face Zaragoza (#4) on the road in the next round. Estudiantes will play against Gernika (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
