Regular Season Round 17: Gomel - Victoria 81-74

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Victoria (9-8) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Gomel (7-10) 81-74 on Thursday. Victoria was trailing by 10 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 23-19 charge of Gomel, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 22 Victoria turnovers and outrebounded them 56-45 including 22 on the offensive glass. Gomel looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was power forward Olga Kopylova (187-1982) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. Daria Panasyuk (176-1996) chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Ksenia Shepel (174-2005) produced 15 points and 5 rebounds and guard Aleksandra Polubok (154-2006) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Victoria's coach Viktoryia Datsun rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gomel maintains fifth place with 7-10 record. Victoria lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourth position with eight games lost. Gomel will meet league's second-placed Tsmoki-Minsk on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Victoria will play against the league's leader Gorizont and hope to secure a win.
