Regular Season Round 21: Fjolnir - Haukar 101-108

An interesting game for Haukar (18-2) which played road game in Reykjavik against 4th placed Fjolnir (12-9). First ranked Haukar managed to get a 7-point victory 108-101. Fjolnir trailed by 19 points after 3 quarters before a 32-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 101-108 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Fjolnir 44-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. Haukar looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a good game for American guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Spanish point guard Jose Medina (185-1993) contributed with a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Haukar's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Slovenian point guard Mirza Sarajlija (187-1991) answered with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and center Olafur Styrmisson (198-2003) added 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Fjolnir. Four Haukar and five Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Haukar have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 18-2 record. Fjolnir at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Haukar are looking forward to face Skallagrimur (#7) in Borganes in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Fjolnir will play on the road against Hrunamenn in Fludir and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
