Second Stage Round 2: Pyrinto - Kouvot 110-86

Very important is a road loss of Kouvot against Pyrinto on Saturday night. Visiting Kouvot was crushed by Pyrinto in Tampere 110-86. The game was mostly controlled by Pyrinto. Kouvot was better in fourth quarter 31-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pyrinto dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Kouvot's 38. They outrebounded Kouvot 50-35 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pyrinto players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Canadian forward Emanual Shepherd (203-1995, college: Southern) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Tomas Pihlajamaki (194-2000) supported him with 19 points and 7 assists. Pyrinto's coach Miikka Sopanen felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 31 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Tray Boyd III (193-1998, college: ETSU) did not help to save the game for Kouvot. American-Syrian guard Amir Hinton (196-1997, college: Shaw) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Five Pyrinto and four Kouvot players scored in double figures. Pyrinto will play against Seagulls in Helsinki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kouvot will play on the road against KTP Basket in Kotka and hopes to get back on the winning track.
