Very predictable result when second ranked Estudiantes (16-4) smashed on the road 9th ranked Alicante (10-11) 98-75 on Saturday. Estudiantes shot 60.7 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 60.9 percentage. Estudiantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Chilean guard Ignacio Arroyo Varela (190-2000) who scored 22 points and 8 assists. Danish center Kevin Larsen (208-1993, college: GWU) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Five Estudiantes players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Dutch forward Joey van Zegeren (208-1990, college: Northwestern, agency: Duran International) who recorded 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and power forward Alejandro Galan (207-1999) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Estudiantes keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Granada. Loser Alicante dropped to the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Estudiantes will meet at home Juaristi ISB (#15) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Alicante will play against Palma (#17) and hope to secure a win.
