Regular Season Round 18: ToPo Juniorit - HNMKY 97-89

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Helsinki: ToPo Juniorit (#1) and HNMKY (#8). ToPo Juniorit (14-3) won against visiting HNMKY (7-11) 97-89. ToPo Juniorit shot 23 for 38 from the free-throw line, while HNMKY only scored seven points from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. HNMKY was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Eldar Skamo (198-1986) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and point guard Miki Kuusisto (194-1994) supported him with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. ToPo Juniorit's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by guard Samuli Makela (178-1999) did not help to save the game for HNMKY. Point guard Erik Waxlax (175-1999) added 20 points and 7 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. ToPo Juniorit maintains first position in 1st Division with 14-3 record. HNMKY at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. ToPo Juniorit will play against Kouvot Ak. (#9) in Kouvola in the next round and are hoping to win another game. HNMKY will play at home against Jyvaskyla BA and hopes to get back on the winning track.
