There was an upset when higher ranked Varese (9-11) was outplayed on the road by fourteenth ranked Empoli (7-13) 78-55 on Saturday. Empoli outrebounded Varese 40-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Lorenzo Restelli (195-1996) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Power forward Matteo De Leone (198-1997) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Matteo Maruca (185-1997) produced 11 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Alessandro Spatti (203-1995, agency: SLN) added 14 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Empoli moved-up to eleventh place in B, which they share with Crema and Bologna Basket. Loser Varese keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Monfalcone. Empoli will meet league's leader Vigevano on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
